The tiny hamlet of Machat, in the heart of the French countryside, is on the borders of Charente and Limousin. The nearest village is Chassenon. It is halfway between Chabanais and Rochechouart, where you can find supermarkets and shops with everything that you could require. The area is rich in history and has many interesting places to visit.

Our stay at this accessible rental in France was absolutely fantastic! From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the property had been thoughtfully designed with accessibility in mind, making our trip incredibly comfortable and enjoyable. The home itself is spacious, with wide doorways and a step-free layout, perfect for wheelchair access. The bathroom had a roll-in shower and sturdy grab bars, which gave us peace of mind and made getting ready each day hassle-free. The kitchen was also well-equipped and accessible, with appliances and counters positioned at convenient heights. Overall, this rental is ideal for travelers with mobility needs who want to enjoy the beauty and culture of France without worrying about accessibility challenges. We couldn’t recommend it more and look forward to returning for another stay!

Visited only for a short break to recharge batteries. This was the perfect place. If you love rural areas, this is the place to be, only 30 mins from the airport, but in such a quiet little hamlet. Property has recently undergone major renovation and is just wonderful. We will certainly be visiting again.

We stayed at Dene and Myra's lovely bungalow for 6 weeks. It was truly lovely, very quiet and peaceful listening to nature. The bungalow is very nicely decorated and furnished also very comfortable and has everything you need. It was also a nice surprise to get fresh eggs and tasty vegetables straight from the garden. The chickens are so friendly and funny to watch!! There is also the gorgeous Bluebell who would visit everyday for her doggie treats! A very very nice place to stay would highly recommend. Beautiful French Gite in machat, I highly recommend it, peaceful and quiet, hosts are friendly and helpful. A great base to visit other places around an hour away. We went to see caves which were wheelchair accessible shown in the pictures below and then visited Brantome in the Dordoigne and had a leisurely trip down the river which you can see in the photos I gave attached. Lots of local bars near the Gite and restaurants and also a beautiful lake beach which we visited which also has a food place which offers snacks and drinks. I would definitely recommend.

We’re so lucky we found this gem! Everything was perfect; the brand new property with 3 bathrooms, 2 beautiful big bedrooms and a nice living room with beautiful garden view. Very clean and they thought about every little detail. The garden area is amazing; a perfect spot to enjoy the countryside of France. Nearby villages and grocery stores. Don’t forget to visit Site Corot, beautiful nature park. For a swim Plage de la Guerlie. Dene and Myrna are very kind and helpful. We definitely come back! What a beautiful Gite in rural France. The hosts Dene and Myrna couldn’t do enough for us and even though the weather was very hot the Gite was so lovely and cool inside. Very accessible as I have mobility issues and the place had 2 identical walk in showers which you could either use the full shower head or switch to the hand held shower attachment. A shower chair was there if needed with grab rails around the shower and toilet. We were visited by the chickens which had us in stitches. The area is very beautiful and we had plenty of day visits out to the Dordoigne which is only about 70 minutes drive away and there are lots of lovely bars, cafes and restaurants to eat at all using locally produced food. A place you must stay for a visit. Fully equipped kitchen and when we arrived we were greeted by the hots in person who had left tea coffee and sugar and milk with some wine and biscuits thrown in. The local town has supermarkets where you can get provisions and is only a 10 minute drive away. Also the local lake beach in Videix is lovely and peaceful where you can have a swim. I would definitely recommend.

Very friendly host, very helpful, very clean house, very well equipped. A little isolated but very quiet.
